Cleanaway Education Officer GeorgetteCleanaway Education Officer Georgette holds a Bachelor of Science Double Major and First-Class Honours in Ecology & Environmental Science from the University of Adelaide. Georgette has a keen interest in sustainability and enjoys exploring and implementing resource recovery solutions for a wide variety of businesses and educational institutions.

Georgette is particularly passionate about diverting organic materials such as food and green waste from landfill. Organic material is one of the most recyclable waste streams and can be turned into nutrient-rich compost to nourish soil, used as animal feed or even turned into electricity to power homes and businesses through energy-from-waste technology.

“Food waste is also a major problem in Australia, costing the economy around $20 billion each year – that’s 7.3 million tonnes of food or 300kgs per person!” Organics recycling is an opportunity for commercial kitchens, nursing homes and schools to increase their recycling rates while reducing the cost of the general waste bin. It’s a win-win situation for both the environmental and economic bottom lines when businesses choose an organics recycling service with us.” says Georgette.

Georgette’s customers range from early learning centres to supermarkets, where she helps these businesses understand exactly what they are wasting through waste audits and inspections, then finding the right recycling solutions tailored to our customers’ needs. Her work is not done once the service in place – Georgette plays a key role in providing ongoing support through staff education programs, bin signages and continuous monitoring to improve waste systems.

Cleanaway provides industry-leading waste and recycling education programs that include our online e-learning portal Greenius, site visits, waste audits, waste stream management, optimised internal bin set ups, waste education signage, staff training, age-appropriate student training programs, and ongoing support through a locally-based Education Officer, just like Georgette.
