Soil Injection Service

Soil Injection Service

Cleanaway provides a genuine closed loop solution by recovering organic end products through our sustainable soil injection treatment service. Talk to us and see how we can customise our solutions to reach your sustainability goals.

Get in touch

Closing the organic loop with soil injection treatment

Our organic waste soil injection technology allows us to turn organic liquid residuals and by-products from food and beverage manufacturers into nutrient-rich fertiliser. The organic waste is collected and treated without being exposed to air, preserving valuable nitrogen and phosphorus until application.

Eligible organic by-products used in soil injection include:

  • Dairy, ice cream and yogurt sludge
  • Food waste meant for product destruction (out-of-date food and beverage such as juice, soft drinks and alcohol)
  • Flavouring, sauces and pastes
  • Liquid waste from vegetable and fruit canning process

Materials must be biodegradable (from food sources only), free from contamination and hazardous substances, and physically pumpable (typically 10% solid content).

Benefits

For agriculture

Soil injected fertiliser delivers value through increased soil nutrients and water retention in a cost effective manner that improves your business operations. An organic soil injection service is proven over time to lessen the amount of inorganic fertiliser required and reduce the ecological impact of your operations.

For industry

The collection of your organic by-products provides a complete end-to-end recycling solution for businesses seeking to improve their sustainability KPIs or move towards zero waste to landfill targets. Soil injected fertiliser will often be used in pasture near your operations, allowing you to contribute directly to your community’s environment.

For regulatory authorities

You can feel secure in the knowledge that Cleanaway has a long, proven history of supporting industries and communities within established guidelines and has worked with authorities to help shape those guidelines. Our soil injection treatment service is reviewed regularly to ensure compliance.

How soil injection treatment works

Cleanaway collects organic by-products from food and beverage manufacturers and transports them to pasture sites with our fleet of purpose-built vehicles. The organic material collected is stored onsite in bulk storage tanks to be assessed and readied for application.

The organic by-product is then transferred to specialised agricultural equipment and injected below the soil surface to an approximate depth of ten to 30cm. The paddocks are then ploughed to ensure the product is incorporated into the topsoil layer. This nutrient-rich material is processed and recycled into fertiliser for agricultural land.

Cleanaway then injects the organic by-products into crop soil to:

  • Maximise nutrient value
  • Increase water retention
  • Produce high quality crops and animal feed
  • Reduce cost from inorganic fertilisers

This results in an end-to-end recycling solution that encourages zero waste to landfill.

Green Organics

Green Organics

Cleanaway provides green organic waste removal and recycling solutions for businesses and consumer needs of all sizes.

Get in touch

What is green organic waste?

Green waste is defined as biodegradable waste generated from:

  • Garden waste such as grass clippings, trimmings, old stumps, tree branches, twigs, leaves, flowers, weeds and unwanted indoor plants
  • Timber waste such as treated and untreated wood from home renovation projects as well as construction and demolition activities
  • Wood waste and pallet from furniture industries

There are endless recycling opportunities for green waste to be collected and converted into soil conditioners, mulch and compost in accordance with industry best practices. Our green organic waste disposal and recycling solutions can help you:

  • Improve landfill diversion and sustainability rates
  • Lower possible landfill levy charges
  • Lighten the weight, volume and cost of your general waste bin
  • Effectively close the organic loop on this essential waste stream

From the occasional green waste removal to creating and executing a comprehensive garden waste management plan, Cleanaway can help you reach your sustainability goals.

Garden waste collection and disposal service

Cleanaway’s garden waste recycling services ensure that your green and garden waste can be diverted from landfill. When organic waste breaks down in landfill it releases greenhouse gases, particularly methane, which contributes to climate change. By using our services, you can help us fight climate change and make a sustainable future possible.

Our green waste disposal services focus on recovering resources from your garden and garden waste. Cleanaway can provide regular garden rubbish removal for projects, parks, businesses and farms, or we can do ad hoc collections to suit your needs.

Using a garden waste removal collection service helps you improve sustainability rating by diverting as much as possible from the landfill.

Closing the green organic loop

Cleanaway’s green waste recycling facilities are EPA-approved and located throughout Australia. Here, your leaves, grass, tree branches and roots will be recycled into compost and mulch, which are then channeled back to the agriculture and gardening industries. This helps us make a sustainable future possible as it creates a genuine closed loop economy.

Our team of professional agricultural, soil and environmental scientists, backed by experienced operators and a fleet of purpose-built equipment and vehicles, work together to ensure your green and garden waste are put to good use in accordance with industry best practices.

Cleanaway is also certified to ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) and AS 4801 (OHS) standards, helping to reduce your risk profile.

Laparoscopic and Surgical Instruments

Laparoscopic Waste Disposal Solutions

A smart alternative to keyhole surgical instrument disposal.

Get in touch

Laparoscopic surgical waste solutions

Laparoscopic waste comes in two different categories:

  • Short stock, including antibiotic vials, lancets, scalpel blades, needles, syringes, glass ampoules and pathology slides
  • Long stock, including keyhole surgical instruments, ultrasonic scalpels, laparoscopic instruments and arthroscopic wands

Incorrect disposal of laparoscopic waste can cause injury. This happens when sharps needle, suture needle, scalpel or other disposable surgical instruments penetrate or scratch the skin. Factors that contribute to such injuries include overfilled collectors, incorrectly sealed collectors or sharps penetrating the collectors.

The Laparosmart and Sharpsmart systems are the premium solution for surgical instrument disposal in a theatre environment. The Laparosmart’s wider aperture and taller vertical drop create a compatible solution for longer, bulkier instruments and volumetric sharps waste while the Sharpsmart system eliminates sharps injury risk, reduces infection transfer and minimises environmental impact.

Safety benefits

  • Australian Standards approved. All disposable laparoscopic instruments used in direct contact with a patient should be disposed of in an Australian Standards compliant sharps container
  • Safety-engineered design of our collectors protects medical staff, environmental service personnel and transporters of waste

Financial benefits

  • Reduction in sharps collector turnover for clinical staff
  • Reduction in the cost per litre of surgical instrument disposal
  • Reduction in the number of collectors and 14% reduction in the collector volume handled by environmental staff
  • Reduction in the sharps collector volume occupying dock space

Point-of-use segregation

To prevent sharps injury risk, it is recommended that all smaller needles, scalpels and finer syringes be deposited into an S22 Sharpsmart collector. Designed with a maximum sensitivity counterbalanced safety tray which deposits sharps away from the user, and a gravity based mechanism which effectively conceals the aperture of the collector to prevent hand access, the S22 completes the circle of sharps safety.

The dual L64 + S22 compatibility of our Accessmart trolley provides the ultimate point-of-use instruments/sharps segregation solution for surgical environments.

Peerless safety from disposal to transport and treatment

Our Laparosmart laparoscopic waste disposal system has been designed to ensure no waste is bagged or decanted. This in turn eliminates risk during handling and transfer of all single use surgical instruments.

We can also provide a confidential and secure service that helps to manage your business reputation while recovering as much resource as possible.

Cleanaway offers comprehensive food waste management solutions for all business sizes. From waste audits to determine the biggest opportunities to improving your organic waste disposal processes, we can help improve your sustainability rates without compromising your business goals.

Acceptable items for food waste collection and recycling include:

  • Bakery items
  • Grains and pasta
  • Dairy products
  • Egg shells
  • Coffee grounds and tea bags
  • Fruit and vegetable scraps
  • Flowers and herbs

How food waste collection and recycling works

Our inhouse experts will work together with you to conduct waste audits, audits and workshops. This helps us spot waste management inefficiencies and identify possible new waste streams to improve sustainability rates and goals. Cleanaway then collects the food waste and transports it to our EPA-accredited facilities with our fleet of purpose-built vehicles. The organic material collected is stored onsite in bulk storage tanks to be assessed and readied for application.

This nutrient-rich material is then processed and given a second lease on life as energy, compost and liquid fertilisers, contributing to a genuine closed loop economy that delivers value at every stage in the supply chain.

GMO Waste

GMO Waste Disposal Solutions

Cleanaway Daniels provides safe and efficient disposal solutions for GMO (genetically modified organisms) waste.

Get in touch

GMO waste disposal

What is a genetically modified organism (GMO)?

A GMO is an organism that has been genetically modified to introduce a new characteristic within itself. GMOs may consist of plants, animals or microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi.

What is contained use of GMOs?

In the medical and healthcare industry, “contained use” refers to the usage, storage, transport and destruction of GMOs to provide a high level of safety by limiting contact between GMOs and humans or the environment.

All infectious and non-infectious GMOs contained within clinical waste should be pre-bagged before disposal. Waste derived from human or animal research that contains infectious substances is classified as infectious GMO waste while waste that does not contain infectious substances is categorised as non-infectious GMO waste.

Secure GMO waste disposal with Clinismart

We utilise our user-friendly Clinismart system to safely contain, store, transport and destroy hazardous GMOs contained within clinical waste streams. The reusable Clinismart GMO waste disposal system comes with a foot-pedal mechanism that minimises contact between GMO waste and healthcare staff and reduces risk of pathogen transfer.

First, the assembled collector is wheeled to the GMO waste generation point where it collects and contains waste. Once full, the container is locked and taken to storage for pick up and disposal. Our fleet of purpose-built waste collection vehicles transports the collectors to our EPA compliant facilities where GMO waste is processed for recovery or secure destruction.

At the facility, the Clinismart containers are sent to our Washsmart system where they are washed through a stringent eight-step process with environmentally friendly detergent, powerful jet blasting hoses and steam technology. They then go through a rigorous quality control check where each container is inspected, tested and checked to be in 100% working order.

Biosolids

Biosolids

Cleanaway provides a range of biosolids waste management services for your needs.

Get in touch

Complete biosolids waste management and consultation

Biosolids are a by-product of the sewage treatment process. This material has a high nutrient value and is rich in organic matter. When used as a soil conditioner, biosolids can help improve soil chemical and physical properties, which will then enhance plant growth.

What do biosolids look like?

Biosolids vary depending on the treatment process and the moisture content. Dewatered biosolids typically range from 20% to 80% moisture. At 80% moisture biosolids resemble wet manure. As the moisture content drops, the biosolids begin to resemble soil. Liquid biosolids usually have a solids content of less than 10% and have the appearance of dark, organic liquid.

How are biosolids applied to land?

The physical properties of the biosolids will determine the appropriate land application method used. Liquid biosolids are injected below the surface of the soil using specialised equipment. Dewatered biosolids are temporarily stockpiled at the application site before being applied to the surface of the soil, using specialised spreading equipment, and then ploughed below the soil surface.

Biosolids application rates are calculated to meet crop nutrient requirements. Due to their organic nature, nutrients are released slowly, and application rates are much higher than for conventional fertilisers. Application rates will depend on the nutrient requirements of the crop and the moisture content of the biosolids. Rates typically range from 50 to 100 wet tonnes per hectare.

What are the benefits of biosolids?

Biosolids can be applied to the land as a soil amendment or a substitute for conventional fertilisers. The application of biosolids can benefit soil through the addition of organic matter and nutrients, which improve soil fertility and the quality and structure of soil. Biosolids also contain micronutrients such as copper, zinc and iron, which can further reduce the need for additional fertilisers.

The Cleanaway difference

Cleanaway offers integrated biosolids treatment and consultation through innovative systems and procedures ensuring that we meet your needs and deliver safety and quality while minimising the environmental and community impacts. Our biosolid material has been carefully treated, monitored and utilised in accordance with Australian regulatory requirements.

Pharmaceutical Waste

Pharmaceutical Waste Management

Cleanaway Daniels offers safe and sustainable pharmaceutical waste disposal and treatment solutions for the healthcare industry.

Get in touch

The world’s safest pharmaceutical management system

Pharmaceutical waste includes expired, unused, spilt and contaminated or hazardous pharmaceutical products, drugs and vaccines. The pharmaceutical waste stream includes residual medicines which may be contained in:

  • Partly emptied bottles or glass vials
  • Prescription drugs (hard capsule or tablet medication)
  • Broken ampoules
  • Drawing up needles
  • Connecting tubing

All pharmaceutical waste are discarded carefully to prevent tampering, theft and risk of infection to patients and healthcare workers.

Setting a new industry benchmark in safe pharmaceutical waste collection, containment and disposal, Cleanaway Daniels’ pharmaceutical waste management collection systems are the first of their kind designed to mitigate unnecessary risk for healthcare practitioners and the public in the handling of pharmaceutical waste. The P22 Pharmasmart and P64 Pharmasmart solutions form part of a safeguarded waste journey that eliminates tampering, pillaging and misappropriation of discarded pharmaceuticals.

Safeguarding pharmaceutical waste from cradle to grave

As guardians of your cradle to grave waste responsibility, we take every precautionary step to ensure that you are protected in the handling and disposal of drugs, medicines, controlled substances and drug disposal services. Through our partnership we commit to:

  • Ensuring each of our facilities has EPA approval in the storage and handling of high risk wastes
  • Maintaining 24 hour CCTV security across our sites to safeguard against tampering or malpractice
  • Employing EPA compliant waste tracking processes
  • Providing clear colour coded identification labelling to aid segregation, with operational instruction and training of your staff to avert the risk of sizeable fines
  • Identifying potential security risks within your facility and providing appropriate accessories and/or additional locking to ensure safe practice

EPA compliance

EPA requirements in Australia mandate that all pharmaceutical waste must be clearly identified as a dedicated stream and be destroyed by high temperature incineration. In the breaking down of potentially harmful compounds into inert elements that cannot harm humans or the environment, the incineration process poses the least risk in drug, medicine and pharmaceutical destruction.

P22 Pharmasmart

The 13 safety-engineered features of the P22 make it the safest pharmaceutical waste collection unit in Australia. Designed with in-built tamper-proof locks which, when engaged, can only be released at a Cleanaway processing facility, the P22 Pharmasmart eliminates the risks associated with other pharmaceutical containers: unauthorised access to contents on site while awaiting collection and/or in transit.

The P22 is designed for ultimate versatility. Its content-concealing safety tray restricts visibility of contents and hand access to pharmaceuticals contained within, and an additional front lock on the collectors ensures patient safety if accessible in a public area. Understanding the varying healthcare environments and applications in which the container may be deployed, we designed a range of lockable brackets and trolleys to navigate mounting and movement within a medical facility, creating a security solution that extends beyond the container itself.

Ideally suited to drug draw-up/medication rooms and ward use, the P22 is the most versatile solution for low volume areas and healthcare environments that allow public access.

P64 Pharmasmart

Designed for higher volume areas such as drug dispensary areas and pharmacies, the P64 is best in class for pharmaceutical waste disposal in secure environments. Engineered with the same in-built locking features of the P22 container, the P64 Pharmasmart solves containment, transport and disposal risks, and its wide access geometry opening gives it greater versatility for bulk disposal of pharmaceuticals. For use in a public or less secure environment, we recommend an additional front lock which restricts public access to container contents.

Understanding the varying medical environments and applications in which the container may be used, we designed a range of lockable brackets and trolleys to navigate mounting and movement within a medical environment, creating a security solution that extends beyond the container itself.

Ideally suited to pharmacies that need disposal of bulk expired pharmaceuticals, the P64 gives increased volume capacity without sacrificing security. As a safety-engineered device, the P64 protects contents through the complete cycle of containment, transport and destruction.
