Cleanaway, like many other businesses in Australia, is grappling with the challenge of staff shortages. Truck driver shortages are being experienced across the entire waste, transportation and logistics industry. They are not unique to Cleanaway. The demand for drivers has meant that positions where a driver is required to undertake more physical work are less desirable, making it difficult to fill hard waste vacancies and retain drivers.

As a result of these shortages, there have been impacts to collection services. Cleanaway apologises for the inconvenience this has caused, in particular across the City of Whitehorse. If a hard waste collection is delayed, residents are encouraged to leave their waste out and it will be collected in the following days.

We have added resources and we are running collection services on the weekend to catch up on overdue collections. We expect that booked collections for this weekend onwards in Whitehorse will be collected on time.

To deal with staff shortages in the long term Cleanaway will invest in boosting the casual workforce pool and internal driver training to accelerate recruitment.

Again, we apologise for these impacts to services. Please be assured we are doing our best to minimise any disruptions and continue providing a quality, timely service.
