Nutrient-rich, soil enhancing compost
Cleanaway's compost is a natural soil conditioner made from recycled food and garden organics (FOGO). Known for boosting crop growth, it enriches the soil with a broad spectrum of essential nutrients, including trace elements that are often absent in single-type fertilisers. Processed in a state-of-the-art facility, our compost meets NSW EPA and DPI biosecurity standards, making it the ideal solution for enhancing the health and productivity of your agricultural land.
Key product benefits
Our compost's biggest advantage is the long-term benefits it brings to your pasture's soil structure and fertility.
Nutrient content is higher than garden organics applications (mulch): Our compost offers a wide range of essential nutrients. The product contains the three primary nutrients plants require for growth: Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), along with micronutrients, trace minerals and organic matter that create a supportive environment for microorganisms, further enriching your soil.
Improves soil resilience: With regular applications, our compost will restore your soil's structure through organic matter and organic carbon. This results in improved drainage and water retention abilities, creating soil that is more resilient to extreme weather conditions.
Boosts crop yields: Trials using our compost have shown successful results across a variety of crops, including improved growth, size, colour, and overall health, leading to greater returns for our farmers. Read our case study for more information about the trial.
Consistency and quality: Our compost is produced in a facility that mixes and turns the product over 30 times before it leaves for use on agricultural land. This process ensures our compost is homogeneous and consistent, delivering an even distribution of nutrients and organic matter for uniform plant growth and reliable soil performance.
Contributes to a circular economy: We make our compost from recycled organic matter that goes through rigorous composting processes. Our compost can be used in a variety of ways within the agricultural industry and is a sustainable way to increase nutrient recycling and reduce carbon emissions.
Certified: Our compost is manufactured to the NSW EPA The Compost Order 2016 and the NSW DPI Certification Assurance Procedure CA-05.

Real results from local farmers
After positive experiences using other compost products, a NSW farmer is celebrating encouraging comparative results from a Cleanaway organics compost trial.
“The paddock wasn’t performing as well as I would like, and I wanted to restore it to a lucerne paddock. Compost was a great way to improve the soil in the long term. The trial strips showed better colour and more growth, and a better crop means healthier cattle and higher meat production, which is the aim at the end of the day.” Farmer Mark (NSW)

FAQS
Recycled compost is a soil ameliorant made from organic matter, such as leftover food and vegetation materials that have been broken down by microorganisms through a process called composting. The end product is a soil-like material nutrient-rich fertiliser full of organic matter that can be used to improve soil health and improve plant growth.
Food organics and garden organics are collected from homes and commercial customers. Our process uses state-of-the-art composting technologies, with forced aeration, continuous turning and automated water addition, resulting in a product that is compliant with the NSW EPA The Compost Order 2016.
Compost is a natural product and improves your soil by supporting natural nutrient recycling and providing a feedstock for soil microbes to thrive. In contrast, inorganic fertilisers tend to bypass these natural biological processes by directly supplying nutrients to plants, which could lead to a loss of soil organic carbon and a deterioration in soil health. While they may provide quick boosts to plant growth, they do not contribute to the long-term sustainability of the soil, and lead to a dependency on fertiliser applications. In addition to the benefits above, our compost adds valuable organic material to the soil, improving nutrient retention and soil structure which enhances soil porosity and moisture retention capabilities.
Our BIOMAX® COMPOSTING TECHNOLOGY is unique in Australia. It’s a fully automated and enclosed biological reactor performing daily compost bed turning, aeration, and watering, which assures complete pasteurisation, pathogen destruction and stabilisation within weeks of receival.
Our composting process includes manual screening, sizing, and advanced decontamination techniques. This comprehensive method, followed by secondary screening, allows our facility to remove any undesirable and unwanted materials.
Our compost contains a broad spectrum of nutrients and organic matter, as it is derived from what was once living matter. Adding it to soil returns what was once removed from the land. The applications that benefit most from Cleanaway compost are agricultural and soil remediation applications such as farms including fruit and nut orchards, broadacre cropping and grazing, horticulture and vegetables production, parks and gardens, soil revegetation and rehabilitation projects.
Increased organic matter leads to improved soil porosity, increased cationic exchange capacity (CEC) and improve water-holding capacity. This leads to a more resilient soil that can recover faster after excess rain, retain nutrients and sustain soils for longer during dry spells.
There are many short-term and long-term benefits. In the short term, compost improves productivity, soil biological activity and better develops crop roots, is also known to reduce nutrient leaching. The long-term benefits are added improvements to overall soil structure and plant health created by the progressive release of nutrients. This is known to boost crop productivity.
Our team of professional agricultural, soil and environmental scientists, backed by experienced operators and a fleet of purpose-built equipment and vehicles, work together to collect Food Organic Garden Organic (FOGO) from households and send it to Cleanaway’s EPA-approved composting facility to be recycled into compost which is then channelled back to the farms that can grow our food once more. Essentially from paddock to plate, then plate back to paddock! This helps us make a sustainable future possible together as it creates a genuine closed loop economy.
By using our compost you’re helping ensure that FOGO can be diverted from landfill which has numerous benefits for the environment. When organic waste breaks down in landfill it releases greenhouse gases, particularly methane, which negatively impacts the environment. By using our compost, you can help us make a sustainable future possible together.
