About Cleanaway Organics Eastern Creek

Strategically located in Western Sydney close to major councils and businesses, this EPA-licensed facility helps customers divert food and green waste from landfill, turning organic waste into a valuable circular resource.

The large-scale impact of our Eastern Creek facility reflects Cleanaway’s ambition to be the most sustainable waste management provider in Australia. More broadly, it contributes to targets in the Australian Government’s National Waste Strategy, which aims to halve the amount of organic waste sent to landfill by 2030.

What we process

Servicing several metropolitan councils, as well as supermarkets, restaurants, events and facilities managers, Cleanaway Organics Eastern Creek accepts a wide range of organic materials.

How it works

null

The facility uses an exclusive Biomax® composting technology to produce high-grade compost compliant with the NSW Environment Protection Agency’s (EPA) Compost Order 2016. This process involves:

  • Manual screening and sizing

  • Advanced decontamination techniques, including:

    • Optical separation

    • X-ray scanning

    • Magnetic and non-magnetic separation

    • Wind sifting

  • Secondary screening for quality control

This state-of-the-art technology allows the facility to handle feedstock with higher levels of contamination, sending less organics to landfill and converting more for reuse in agriculture.

Benefits for councils and businesses

null

The plant supports councils to achieve the NSW State Government’s mandate of providing food and garden organics (FOGO) collections by 2030 by offering a local, circular and long-term solution for:

  • Meeting FOGO processing requirements
  • Reducing methane emissions from landfill
  • Closing the loop on organic resource recovery
  • Achieving council and commercial ESG goals
  • Helping conserve limited landfill space in Sydney
