Nutrient content is higher
Our compost offers a wide range of essential nutrients. The product contains the three primary nutrients plants require for growth: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), along with micronutrients, trace minerals and organic matter that create a supportive environment for microorganisms, further enriching your soil.
Improves soil resilience
With regular applications, our compost will restore your soil's structure through organic matter and organic carbon. This results in improved drainage and water retention abilities, creating soil that is more resilient to extreme weather conditions and boosts crop yields.
Consistency and quality
Our compost is produced in a facility that mixes and turns the product over 30 times before it leaves for use on agricultural land. This process ensures our compost is homogeneous and consistent, delivering an even distribution of nutrients and organic matter for uniform plant growth and reliable soil performance.
Certified product
Our compost is manufactured to the NSW EPA The Compost Order 2016 and the NSW DPI Certification Assurance Procedure CA-05.

Process
How Cleanaway compost contributes to the circular economy
Our compost is made from the food and garden waste we collect from households and businesses. This saves FOGO waste from going to landfill, where it breaks down and releases greenhouse gases that are harmful to the environment.
Instead of ending up in the general waste stream, food and garden waste is sent to our EPA-approved organics facility where it goes through a rigorous composting process. The end product is high-quality compost that can be channelled back into the soil of farms to grow our food once more.
In this closed-loop system, organic materials move from paddock to plate, then plate back to paddock, creating a genuine circular economy. By choosing Cleanaway compost, you’re helping to make a more sustainable future possible.

FAQs
What is compost?
How do we make our compost?
Our composting process uses state-of-the-art Biomax® composting technology, which is unique in Australia. It’s a fully automated and enclosed biological reactor performing daily compost bed turning, aeration, and watering, which assures complete pasteurisation, pathogen destruction and stabilisation within weeks of receival.
The comprehensive process also includes manual screening, sizing, and advanced decontamination techniques, followed by secondary screening, to allow our facility to remove any undesirable and unwanted materials.
This results in a high-quality product compliant with the NSW EPA The Compost Order 2016.
How does Cleanaway’s compost compare to inorganic fertilisers?
How can I use Cleanaway compost?
Cleanaway compost is most beneficial for agricultural and soil remediation applications, such as farms, including fruit and nut orchards, broadacre cropping and grazing, horticulture and vegetables production, parks and gardens, soil revegetation and rehabilitation projects.
What are some other benefits of our nutrient-rich compost?
There are many short-term and long-term benefits. In the short term, compost improves productivity, soil biological activity and better develops crop roots, and is also known to reduce nutrient leaching. The long-term benefits are added improvements to overall soil structure and plant health created by the progressive release of nutrients. This is known to boost crop productivity.
