In today’s budget it was announced by the Allan Government that the Victorian waste levy will be harmonised with NSW and South Australia from next year. The harmonisation of the waste levy is a positive first step and provides more certainty to industry to invest in resource recovery infrastructure. This will help the Victorian Government reach their landfill diversion target of 80% by 2030.
Cleanaway has already invested heavily in resource recovery facilities in Victoria that operate higher up the waste hierarchy. Today’s announcement sends a clear signal that Victoria is open for further investment.
