About Cleanaway Daniels Dandenong South Medical Waste Services

As part of the Cleanaway family focusing on healthcare solutions, Cleanaway Daniels Dandenong South employs unrivalled infrastructure alongside best-in-class products and services to safely and sustainably manage healthcare-generated waste streams.

A preferred partner for healthcare facilities, the site processes sharps and clinical waste via groundbreaking innovation, such as its automated sanitisation technology, Washsmart, and its advanced steam sterilisation capability, known as autoclaving.

Cleanaway Daniels Dandenong supports Cleanaway’s broader aim to make a sustainable future possible by delivering the most environmentally responsible methods of managing healthcare waste.

What we process

Cleanaway Daniels Dandenong is designed to handle multiple forms of waste from hospitals, dentists, day surgeries, medical clinics, aged care, and other healthcare facilities across Victoria.

How it works

Waste is processed through a range of advanced solutions that enhance safety, optimise waste segregation and reduce environmental impact:

Washline

Manual sorting is used to identify and remove items that can’t be recycled to reduce contamination and protect machinery.

At its core is Washsmart, a sophisticated eight-step robotic cleaning process that delivers unparalleled levels of cleanliness with a 6-log bacterial load reduction - four times higher sanitisation than required by the CDC in the United States.

Autoclave

For medical waste that cannot be recycled, autoclaving is used to treat it prior to disposal. This subjects waste to high-pressure steam, effectively sterilising and detoxifying it by killing 99.9% of pathogens. Each cycle can treat over 1,000 kgs of waste per hour and, once processed, the waste is now considered safe for landfill, minimising its environmental impact.

Autoclaves can process various types of waste, including contaminated liquids, sharps (with some limitations), and biohazardous materials. The autoclaving process alone achieves a volume reduction of approximately 45% and, together with compaction, achieves a 60% volume reduction, significantly reducing the amount sent to landfill.
