About
What happened?
In 2024, Cleanaway undertook a payroll review in relation to the Cleanaway Northern NSW Regional Drivers Enterprise Agreement 2018 (2018 NNSW EA). Regrettably, our preliminary information from this review indicates a shortfall of wages and/or superannuation for some of Cleanaway’s employees who were covered by that agreement.

What is Cleanaway doing to fix this?
We are deeply sorry for this and are taking responsibility to make it right. Our response to this matter includes:
- Self-reporting: Cleanaway has self-reported these issues to Australia’s Fair Work Ombudsman and the Australian Taxation Office.
- Payroll review: We have undertaken a comprehensive and complex payroll review to ensure that employees receive their entitlements.
- Repayments with interest: All underpayments will be repaid with interest, in line with guidance from the Fair Work Ombudsman.
- Direct communication: Every affected individual will receive personal communication ensuring they are well informed and understand their entitlements.
- Support services: We have established a dedicated support team to respond to queries from impacted individuals.
- System and process improvements: We are making significant investments in our systems, processes, and governance to ensure this does not happen again.
