About

Repurposing your
food organics and garden organics (FOGO)

Cleanaway’s FOGO waste solutions help households and businesses turn their food and garden waste into sustainable resources, like compost that can enrich the soil of farms, parks and gardens.

FOGO is highly recyclable, so we need to take every opportunity to keep it in circulation and out of landfill. Our FOGO bin collection makes this process easy by combining food and garden waste in one handy bin that separates it from general waste and other waste streams.

By diverting FOGO waste from landfill, we support our customers in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a more sustainable waste management system.

Repurposes FOGO waste into resources like compost that benefit the agriculture industry and broader community

Creates a circular economy for food and garden waste, where the organic resources that are recovered can keep returning to the value chain.

Output

What your FOGO waste becomes

Collected FOGO is transported to licensed organics processing facilities. At some of our facilities Cleanaway has the capacity to produce nutrient-rich compost for use on farms, gardens and land rehabilitation projects. In some cases, food waste is can also be used to create biogas via anaerobic digestion, turning waste into renewable energy.

The compost we create is a valuable product that improves the structure and resilience of soil naturally – supporting nutrient recycling and providing a feedstock for soil microbes to thrive. Our high-quality compost enriches the soil with a broad spectrum of essential nutrients, including trace elements that are often absent in single-type fertilisers.
