Listening to local voices to make a sustainable future possible together
Everything we do is to support our purpose of making a sustainable future possible together. This is not achievable without collaboration with our customers and the communities in which we operate.
We actively seek opportunities to engage with groups local to our sites, because we want to better understand the people we work alongside, and hear their thoughts and concerns. It’s through two-way conversations that we build strong, trusted relationships with those at the heart of our communities.
A key channel for facilitating this is through our Community Reference Groups (CRGs). These groups are central to how Cleanaway listens, learns and acts alongside our local people. They provide a space for meaningful conversation, collaboration and accountability.
Community Reference Groups provide a platform for community members to voice their opinions, concerns and suggestions regarding a project or initiative.
Community members offer feedback on proposed designs, potential use and other relevant aspects, helping to identify opportunities and address potential challenges.
Community Reference Groups act as a conduit for information, sharing updates and gathering feedback from the wider community.
Community Reference Groups foster collaboration between our project teams and the community, promoting a sense of ownership and shared responsibility.
What to expect at a CRG meeting
Held at Cleanaway sites or nearby community venues, Community Reference Groups follow a clear agenda designed to promote transparency, share updates and invite meaningful input.

Cleanaway operational updates
News and insights on site activities, including environmental performance, updates on waste volumes, odour management strategies and truck movements, advance notice of any changes to services, operating hours or infrastructure.

Environmental monitoring and reporting
Sharing of air, water, noise and dust monitoring results. Overview of systems and strategies in place to minimise environmental impact.

Community feedback and concerns
Open Q&A sessions to address local concerns. Discussion of topics such as traffic, amenities and safety. Updates on previously raised issues and progress towards resolution.

Planning and development proposals
Previews of new site plans, upgrades or proposed changes to environmental licences. Opportunities for CRG members to provide input that helps shape future development.
Why are CRG meetings important?
Our Community Reference Groups (CRGs) are a key part of how we stay connected with the communities we serve. They provide a trusted forum for open conversation, ensuring residents feel informed, heard and involved in decisions that affect their local area.
Through regular engagement, CRGs help us share updates, listen to feedback and collaborate on initiatives that enhance the positive contribution of our sites. This approach builds trust and ensures our operations reflect community values.
