Leading the way in the waste industry’s environmental performance
As Australia’s largest total waste management, industrial, and environmental services company, we understand that our responsibility to protect the environment goes far beyond sustainable resource recovery and waste management. Operating in a tightly regulated waste industry, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of environmental performance and compliance, with a focus on minimising the environmental impact of managing our customers’ waste.
We embed proactive risk management into every aspect of our operations, from our trucks and facilities to the way we handle, transport and process waste. By aligning with all relevant laws, obligations, regulations, and our own rigorous environmental management system, we honour the trust placed in us by our customers, communities and regulators, and ensure our impact is both responsible and sustainable.

Environmental policy and certification
Our rigorous environmental management system is outlined in our Cleanaway Environmental Policy, which embeds protection of the environment as a foundation at Cleanaway and sets out how we manage environmental risk. Our system has been independently certified to meet the requirements of International Standard for environmental management ISO 14001.
Cleanaway’s Environment Policy details our commitment to environmental protection and how we manage environmental risk and comply with relevant regulations. Doing so also drives us closer to our purpose of making a sustainable future possible together. We do this by:
- Complying with all regulations, setting standards and adopting practices that reflect our commitment to environmental protection and compliance
- Preventing pollution and reducing emissions, while managing waste efficiently and safely for customers
- Maximising recovery, recycling and reuse of waste across our operations
- Identifying, assessing and managing environmental risks, supported by audits, inspections and clear performance targets
- Providing resources, training and tools to empower employees to work safely and responsibly
- Engaging with regulators, communities and other stakeholders, investigating incidents and sharing learnings to drive continuous improvement
