COVID-19 has us spending more time at home and it’s the perfect opportunity to clean out the house and dispose of dangerous chemicals lurking in cupboards and the garage. To support residents, we recently introduced additional measures to ensure safe and efficient drop offs under WA’s Household Hazardous Waste Program.

Contactless collection
Members of the public will drive up to the drop off point, one vehicle at a time. They are not to leave their vehicles so that an appropriate social distance is maintained at all times.

Increased disinfection and hygiene practices
Each vehicle will also be sprayed with disinfectants to ensure no cross-contamination. A portable handwashing station is also available for use.

Safety gear for employees
All employees participating in the Household Hazardous Waste Program are required to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Household Hazardous Waste Program

Cleanaway partners with the WA program to provide hazardous waste transport, disposal and recycling services. After collecting the waste, we separate and transport them to our facility at Kwinana Beach for processing and safe disposal.

The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program provides local governments with funding to assist with the safe collection, storage and disposal of HHW. The program is administered by the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) and funded by the Waste Authority through the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Levy.

Cleanaway Health & Safety Business Partner Abhijit Prasad praised the Cleanaway’s Liquids and Technical Services (LTS) team for their commitment, teamwork and spirit in serving their local communities, as many came in on their off days to make the hazardous waste collections a success. He also thanked Business Development Manager Donna James for her meticulous planning in implementing the new measures.
