This NAIDOC Week, Cleanaway celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our partnership with NAIDOC Perth.
As Platinum Sponsor for a third year in a row, we are proud to be a part of NAIDOC Perth’s series of events including Miss NAIDOC Perth, the NAIDOC Perth Awards, the upcoming NAIDOC Perth Ball and the recently concluded NAIDOC Perth Opening Ceremony. Our support includes contributing time, commitment and energy to the events held throughout the week.
The Opening Ceremony marked the start of NAIDOC Week celebrations in Perth and was held on 7 July at the Supreme Court Gardens.
The event started with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by the Whadjuk Noongar Elders and showcased local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, performers and dancers throughout the day.
There were also activities and performances for children, a free sausage sizzle, community stalls and even a Youth Fashion presentation.
The Cleanaway team were out in full force to support the event and included Cleanaway General Manager Solid Waste Services WA Damian Burton, Executive Assistant Sheree Giffin, Customer Master Data Administator Leanne Weston, Business Development Manager Julia Noakes, Branch Manager Bhavna Tourl, State Municipal Manager Daniel Le Provost, Education Officer Lisa Mansfield and Head of HR Services Kelly Rothwell – who contributed their time and effort towards making the event a success.

Kelly was honoured to lend her support to the event and said, “It is a privilege to support NAIDOC Perth as a team and sponsor. In line with this year’s theme – Voice, Treaty, Truth, let’s work together for a shared future – we are working together to celebrate the heritage and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders while continuing our commitment to Reconciliation.

The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week, “Voice. Treaty. Truth.” are the three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and represent the unified position of First Nations Australians.
