One-bin packaging waste solution: Harvest Recycling

One-bin business packaging waste collection and recycling

Harvest is Cleanaway’s market-leading packaging waste management service, offering a one-bin solution for businesses that produce a lot of packaging waste like cardboard, paper and plastic wrap. The recyclables collected through Harvest contribute to a genuine closed loop economy, and with the improved quality of the recyclables collected we also maximise their value on the market.

Harvest uniquely enables businesses to mix industrial packaging recycling together in one bin. Our waste collection service collects, sorts and bales the materials – ready for domestic or export sale. By simplifying the recycling process, and making it easier to divert waste from landfill, we continue to help your business achieve your sustainability targets.

Harvest is supported by the National Packaging Covenant – a government and industry initiative to reduce the negative environmental effects of packaging on our environment.

Eligible packaging waste

Harvest is a great solution for businesses of all sizes but is especially useful for those that produce a lot of business waste. This includes retailers with large stocks that produce used packaging, as well as cardboard, paper, plastic film, pallet shrink and stretch wrap. Polystyrene is also eligible – just bag it up to ensure it doesn’t break apart and contaminate the other materials.

Our one-bin service includes:

  • Cardboard & paper waste

Recycling your cardboard and paper waste helps you save money by reducing the weight of your general waste bin, and diverts waste from landfill. We guarantee that 100% of all cardboard and paper collected will be recycled at our state-of-the-art facilities. Since most cardboard and paper can be recycled many times, it’s a valuable part of a closed loop economy that plays a big role in making a sustainable future possible.
  • Plastic packaging waste

When plastic packaging waste is separated from other plastics and protected from liquids, it makes a higher grade of recyclable product, and is even more valuable for creating new items.
    • Plastic film
    • Pallet shrink wrap
    • Stretch wrap
    • Polystyrene packaging (must be bagged)

Case study: TAFE NSW

If you ever experience a packaging dilemma like TAFE NSW, Harvest is perfect for you. Their ICT department had a polystyrene foam backlog that was difficult to recycle. Cleanaway suggested its packaging recycling service, Harvest. TAFE would collect smaller pieces of packaging in bright orange bins before bagging and placing them in dedicated Cleanaway skips.

The larger pieces were placed directly into the skips to prevent the packaging from crumbling into pieces or being blown away in transit. Cleanaway collected this weekly, recycling the materials at our Moorebank facility where it could be baled and sold as a recyclable commodity.

We discovered that TAFE NSW could also recycle their pallet wrap and plastic strapping – further contributing to achieving their sustainability goals. Today, TAFE NSW is looking to expand this project to other Metro campuses in TAFE NSW.
