Moree marks a milestone in Return and Earn

Moree has emerged as one of the top 10 recycling locations in the state, with more than 368,000 containers returned and earned through the Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) provided. Although Northern Tablelands represents only one percent of the state’s population, the community has contributed three percent of the total amount recycled in NSW.

Cleanaway, as joint network operators of NSW’s Return and Earn scheme, services the RVMs in the region twice a day, every day. This is how often we need to collect, to keep up with the avid recyclers in Moree.

Moree is home to nine-year old Charlie Crouch, who returned over 5,000 containers in just three weeks and used the refunds earned to buy himself a golf cart. Member for Northern Tablelands, Adam Marshall, applauded Charlie’s efforts, saying that it was outstanding to have a nine-year-old embrace the scheme.

Mr Marshall pointed to Charlie as a perfect example of why the scheme was adopted in the first place. “He had a goal which has now been reached, so who knows what he’ll save up for next. Charlie’s efforts are tremendous and he is setting a great example for others.”

Moree’s RVM was installed when the scheme first rolled out in December 2017 – a first for the Northern Tablelands region. Cleanaway covers 3 local government shires – Moree, Narrabri and Gwydir. Our Moree Depot services both the Moree and Gunnedah units and the balance of Northern Tablelands is serviced by our Tamworth office.
